What Works Under Big League Pressure
Let me start this off with a quote from Olympic Gold medalist Lanny Bassham, author of 'With Winning In Mind':
“My Mental Management® System is not based on psychology; instead, it is 100% based on competition. I did my apprenticeship in the arena of Olympic pressure. My credibility is not based on the course I took in college; it’s in my gold medals and the medals of my students...It’s not theory; it’s simply what works."
There’s something about that quote from Lanny Bassham that hits home for me in the deepest way. When I first read it, I felt like he had reached inside my chest and put words to what I’ve lived.
But where Lanny says "Olympic pressure," I say "Big League pressure." and “World Series pressure.” The kind of pressure that melts most people.
It’s what I trained under. It’s what I learned to navigate. And it’s what shaped everything I now teach inside Major League Mindset.
Why I Don’t Teach Theory — I Teach What Works Under Pressure
A lot of mindset coaches out there are incredibly smart and talented. They’ve studied psychology. They’ve read all the books. Maybe they’ve even written one or two.
But here’s what separates what I do with MLM: I’ve lived it.
I didn’t just learn mindset in a classroom. I learned it in the batter’s box — Game 7, bottom of the 8th, 2 outs of the World Series.
I learned it by getting hit by more pitches per plate appearance than any player in MLB history — because I refused to give up a single inch at the plate.
I learned it battling through slumps, getting sent down, coming back, rehabbing injuries, and still showing up to compete.
I don’t teach theory. I teach repeatable tools that were forged in the fire of Major League competition — the highest level, under the brightest lights.
This Isn't About Chasing Results. About Building Who You Become.
Inside Major League Mindset, the message is simple: "Winning isn’t the goal. Becoming a winner is."
That’s not just a slogan — it’s a system.
Because let’s be real: Anyone can win once. But champions know why they won—and how to do it again.
MLM exists to build those exact skills:
Confidence that doesn’t depend on results
Routines that ground you when emotions run high
Visualization and breathwork that keep you locked in under pressure
Mindsets that turn adversity into fuel, not failure
It’s a blueprint for becoming the kind of person who can perform under pressure — every time.
Olympic Pressure? Try World Series Pressure.
When Lanny Bassham says his system was born from Olympic competition, I nod my head in respect. I get it. There is no comparison. Both stages are beyond enormous.
But, I also know what it feels like to step up in front of 45,000 fans, millions watching from home, and the entire season on the line.
In 2016, I was there — Game 7 of the World Series. And I delivered. Not because I was more talented than anyone else. But because I had built a mental system that could withstand the moment.
MLM was born from that moment — and every moment leading up to it and after it.
This Is Your Athlete’s Edge — On The Field and In Life
Whether I’m working with a youth athlete, a college standout, or a pro awaiting his shot at the big leagues, the message is the same:
Don’t leave your mindset to chance.
Don’t rely on motivation or streaks.
Build a system. Train it daily. Make it who you are.
Major League Mindset isn’t about hype. It’s about habits.
Habits that build the identity of a grounded, confident, resilient competitor.
And the best part? These tools don’t just work in the game. They show up in the classroom. In relationships. In how you walk through life.
Final Word: Real Pressure Reveals Real Preparation
To the athlete reading this: You won’t rise to the occasion. You’ll fall to the level of your training.
To the parent or coach: Give your player more than physical reps. Give them the mental foundation to rise and rise again.
And to everyone chasing their best selves — remember what Lanny said: “It’s not theory; it’s simply what works.
That’s what I’ve built. That’s what I teach. That’s Major League Mindset.
