50-Days Left in 2024. How will you spend them?

As Frank Slootman, former CEO of Snowflake, said:

“Priority should be a single word. If somebody tells me their top three priorities, all I ask them is, which one is it?”

That’s where we are right now—with just 50 days left in the year. The clock is ticking. But here’s the truth: There are no New Year’s resolutions.

Champions don’t wait for January 1st to make changes or set goals. They understand that every day, every moment, is an opportunity to make progress. If you wait for the new year to start fresh, you’ve already lost momentum. That’s why we call them NEW DAY’S RESOLUTIONS here at MLM.

This is your wake-up call: 50 days to finish strong. One goal, one sprint. The question is—what’s your one thing going to be?

The 4-Point Swing: Flip the Momentum

With Major League Mindset, we talk about the concept of momentum shifts—those key moments when you either take control or let the situation control you. One of the best ways to understand this is through the 4-point basketball swing.

Picture this: The opposing team takes a shot—it’s on target—but it rims out. Instead of slowing down, you grab the rebound and push the pace. Before the defense can reset, you hit a three-pointer on the other end of the court. That’s a 4-point swing: two points denied, three points scored.

Momentum flipped.

Now think about the next 50 days of your year like that 4-point swing. Maybe the first part of the year didn’t go as planned. Maybe you’ve been stuck in a slump. But the clock hasn’t run out yet. These next 50 days are your chance to make a move—to flip the momentum and close the year strong.

What’s Your Shot? Pick One Priority

Here’s the mistake most people make: They try to do too much. They set multiple priorities, spread themselves thin, and get nowhere. But as Slootman said—priority is singular. If you want to win, you need to pick your one thing and commit to it.

With MLM, we teach athletes how to close the gap—the gap between who you are today and who you’re capable of becoming. That gap doesn’t close by juggling ten different goals. It closes when you commit to one focus and attack it relentlessly.

Think about it: What’s the one thing you could do, right now, that would make the next 50 days a success? Maybe it’s building a pregame routine that locks you in. Maybe it’s mastering the flush-it routine—learning to let go of mistakes and stay present in the moment.

Or maybe it’s developing antifragile confidence—that ability to perform under pressure, no matter the circumstances.

Whatever your one thing is, this is your moment to commit.

Momentum Builds Momentum

The key to flipping momentum is to take action—now. In my career, I learned this the hard way. Back in 2014, I was in one of the worst slumps of my life.

I was overthinking everything—trying to change my swing mechanics, adjust my approach, tweak every detail. But none of it worked.

So, I simplified. I picked one thing: staying present.

I started using a breath and body language reset between pitches. Every time I missed or struck out, I stepped out of the box, took a breath, reset my posture, and asked myself: What’s important now? That breath brought me back into the moment—over and over again.

The more I focused on that one thing, the more momentum I built. And eventually, the hits started falling.

That’s the power of momentum. One small action—repeated daily—can flip the entire script. But you have to decide to make the move.

HOW TO FINISH 2024 STRONG

Here’s the game plan:

  • Identify your one thing. What’s the one goal, habit, or action that will make these 50 days a win? Pick something meaningful—something that will shift your momentum and set you up for success.

  • Commit to it. No half-measures. Once you’ve picked your one thing, go all in. Whether it’s locking in your routines or developing mental resilience, treat these next 50 days like a sprint.

  • Use targeted thinking. In Major League Mindset, we use a simple process called Targeted Thinking:

  • What do I want?

  • What do I need to do to get it?

  • Go do that thing.

You don’t need to overcomplicate it. Just act. Make your move, track your momentum daily, and stay focused on what matters.

There Are No New Year’s Resolutions—Only Now

Here’s the truth: January 1st won’t save you. The idea that the new year brings a fresh start is a trap. Committed athletes don’t wait—they act now. The next 50 days are your 4th quarter. The clock is ticking.

Will you wait and hope for a reset, or will you take your shot and flip the momentum now?

You don’t need a new year to start fresh. You just need TODAY.

What’s Your One Thing?

I’ll ask you again: What’s your shot? What’s the one thing that will make 2024 a success, no matter what else happens? Is it locking in your routines? Mastering your mental reset? Building antifragile confidence?

Pick it. Commit to it. And when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, you’ll know—you gave it everything you had.

The clock is ticking. No more New Year’s resolutions—make NEW DAY’S RESOLUTIONS every.single.day.
